Indian Regional Association for Landscape Ecology (IRALE) is established as a new Regional Chapter of International Association for Landscape Ecology (IALE) to nurture the science of landscape ecology in India and the neighbouring countries towards sustainable management of natural resources and human wellbeing. It will aim to advance this objective through education, research, professional collaboration and meetings/conferences/workshops, stakeholder involvement and networking amongst members of IRALE and IALE International, Land Managers, Business Establishments and Policy Makers. It will specifically involve in supporting the teaching and research in landscape ecology in institutions of higher learning in India and will provide advisory for integrated development and natural resource management. In practice, IRALE will bring together academicians, practitioners and research students through networking and thematic workshops/conferences to discuss topical themes and work towards problem solving at local as well as regional scales. It will promote teaching and research in landscape ecology in various Institutions and Universities, possibly leading to dedicated course on landscape ecology and integrated landscape planning, including for urban and rural area development.
